How to use it 01 Write one idea per line. name = expression stores a value; a bare expression shows a result; a line with no operator and no leading digit stays a note, so prose and numbers share the page.02 Read the results column. Every valued line shows its result right-aligned beside the line; the header counts lines, results and errors. On screens 700 px or narrower the column shrinks to 96 px and can be hidden with Text only . 03 Reference a line above yours. Write L3 (capital L) or line3 to reuse that line's value, units included; L4 to mi converts a distance held on line 4. 04 Put `subtotal` or `total` on its own line. A blank line starts a subtotal section; total sums the whole sheet, not the subtotal rows. 05 Take a result onward. Click a valued line to save it as a workspace variable or send it onward. The toolbar can publish the last valued line as a result card, add the sheet and results to a report, or save the valued lines as a table; the menu handles New / Rename / Delete, and Restore previous brings back what the last example or clear replaced.
Worked examples These readouts are the display column of the built-in Home budget and Unit conversion notes examples, in line order.

price = 3000000
3000000
downShare = 30%
0.3
down = price * downShare
900000
loan = price * (1 - downShare)
2100000
apr = 4.2%, then loan * apr
88200
monthlyInterest = L7 / 12 (line 7 holds loan * apr)
7350
2 + 3 * 4

1 / 3
0.333333333333
5 km + 3 mi
9.828032 km
speed = 60 km/h, then speed * 1.5 h
90 km
L4 to mi (line 4 holds speed * 1.5 h)
55.9234073014 mi
Unlike the standard calculator , which finishes each operator as it is pressed (2 + 3 × 4 = reads 20), the sheet parses a whole line with operator precedence: 2 + 3 * 4 is 14 . Display keeps 12 significant digits, so 1 / 3 shows 0.333333333333 , and 0.1 + 0.2 - 0.3 shows 5.551115e-17 , the remainder binary floating point leaves behind.
Limits to keep in mind
Ceilings per sheet and per browser. A sheet evaluates its first 200 lines; lines past that are flagged "Beyond the 200-line limit; not evaluated". Up to 20 sheets are kept, in this browser's storage.
Display rounding and unit arithmetic. Results keep 12 significant digits, with scientific notation below 1e-6; units must be compatible to add, so a subtotal over 2 km and 1 h reports "Cannot subtotal: line results have incompatible units". What it does not do: it is not a spreadsheet or a computer-algebra system. There are no columns, cell addresses, sorting or charts, and no symbolic solving or matrices. For matrices and step-by-step algebra use Math Tools ; for column statistics use Statistics ; for a plot use the graphing calculator .
Row references point backwards The signature trap is that the page is a single top-to-bottom pass that keeps going after an error. References read only lines above the current one: on line 1, L2 + 1 reports "Invalid line reference: line 2 is below this line". Because the address is a line number, inserting a note shifts every reference — with price = 100 on line 2 and qty = 3 on line 3, L2 * L3 reads 300 ; add one comment line above and the same expression reports "Invalid line reference: line 2 has no value". A failed line also does not clear what it was assigning: after spent = 1200, a line spent = ( errors, yet budget - spent still reads 3600 . The previous value survives, so later lines can print stale numbers without warning.
Where it fits Splitting trip costs Four flights at 1200 are flights = 1200 * 4 (4800 ) and three hotel nights at 680 are 2040 , so the first subtotal reads 6840 . Food 1500 , taxi 260 and tickets 480 make the second subtotal 2240 and total 9080 ; perPerson = L11 / 4 gives 2270 each.
Budgets and quotes Keep a price, a deposit share and a loan on named lines: a 30% deposit on 3,000,000 is 900000 , the loan is 2100000 , and 4.2% a year is 88200 , or 7350 a month. Change the rate or deposit and the lines below update.
Unit conversion notes Mixed units work in plain arithmetic: 5 km + 3 mi reads 9.828032 km , speed * 1.5 h reads 90 km , and a row reference converts on the spot — L4 to mi reads 55.9234073014 mi .
Privacy The sheet is evaluated line by line in your browser; the text you type stays in this browser's storage and is never uploaded.
